There are a few tools from audacity that especially useful:
There's a built-in metronome that keeps time for you while you record.
You can mute layers while you record over them (or have them play, so you can hear them and keep in time with them).
There are ways to adjust the tone and speed of the sounds you record, and you can even insert silent space.
There's a noise remover, too! It makes it sound crisp and clear, like professional music.
